Australia Unity congratulates the Albanese Labor Government on its victory in the 2022 Federal Election.

Australian Unity looks forward to working with the new Australian Government,” said Rohan Mead, Managing Group Director and Chief Executive Officer at Australian Unity.

“The Labor Government has shown good will and support for the pressing issues facing our communities today—climate change, aged care, housing affordability, business investment and productivity, women’s participation in the workforce—the issues we must work together to address to help our communities thrive.

“I thank outgoing Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Coalition Government for their service to the country, in particular throughout the pandemic," Mr Mead said.

“It is encouraging and inspiring to see so many women elected to the 47th Parliament of Australia and I am buoyed by the energy, perspective and balance that these newly-elected members will bring to the legislature with the very strong endorsement of their constituents.

“I also applaud the emphasis that Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and Senator Penny Wong gave to the Uluru Statement from the Heart in their victory speeches on election night.”

Mununjhali man and Australian Unity’s Executive General Manger for Indigenous Services, Ken Markwell said the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which Australian Unity has publicly supported, sets out the way forward for all Australians in a process of reconciliation.

“Our people must have a voice on matters affecting our lives and a constitutionally enshrined voice in parliament is an important part of empowering our voices,” Mr Markwell said.

“I look forward to working with Wiradjuri woman Linda Burney, the first Aboriginal woman to serve as Minister for Indigenous Australians and the newly elected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this Parliament.

“I also extend my deep gratitude to Ken Wyatt (Noongar, Yamatji and Wongi man), the outgoing Minister for Indigenous Australians, for his contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs and the aged care sector during his time in office.”
