What is Support at Home?

The Australian Government is changing the way it funds in-home care.

The new Support at Home program will start in July 2025, providing funding for services to help people live independently for longer.

Support at Home will replace the:

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
Home Care Packages (HCP) program
Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC)
Residential Respite programs

What does this mean for me?

If you already have government funded home care services, you’ll be transitioned to the new program when it comes into effect in July 2025.

While further details are still to be released, it’s anticipated that people with existing care plans and services will transition over smoothly, without reassessment.

Why is in-home care changing?

The new program is a response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

Support at Home is one way the government is addressing the recommendations and providing older Australians with easier access to services.

Better Support at Home

It’s anticipated that Support at Home will deliver a range of benefits.

One assessment process and team
A consistent, single assessment process to simplify the process of obtaining funding.
Individualised support plans
Through the assessment process, you’ll receive a support plan with a list of approved services aligned to your needs and goals.
Focus on independence
Support at home will have a greater focus on restorative care, to help customers enjoy greater independence and quality of life.
Greater clarity
There will be a clear list of services that can be funded by Support at Home and consistent pricing.
Flexibility
You’ll have greater choice over who delivers your services and how they are managed.
