Depending on your cover, you may have a waiting period—or exclusion—for pre-existing conditions.
If you’re serving this waiting period, you may not be able to claim benefits for services rendered during this time. The waiting period may apply if you’re joining Australian Unity or upgrading your existing hospital cover to a higher level.
There can also be other waiting periods, depending on the type of cover you have or the service you need to claim. Check your Fact Sheet to see what applies to you.
You’re considered to have a pre-existing condition if:
- you have an illness, ailment or condition; and
- in the opinion of a medical advisor appointed by Australian Unity, the signs or symptoms existed during the six months leading up to—and/or on the day—you became insured with Australian Unity or upgraded your cover
This can apply even for conditions you were not aware of.
If you’ve recently switched to Australian Unity, or have upgraded your cover, check your OVC Member Guide to learn how you may be affected. Or give us a call on 1300 899 739.
