Everyone receiving home care support has the right to be safe, treated with dignity and respect, and receive high quality care and services.

Anyone who is looking after someone with disability, a medical condition, mental illness, or an older person with care needs can access the Australian Government’s Carer Gateway services.

Assessment of care needs is the foundation of our home care system.

In November, we welcomed one of the most significant milestones being the launch of the Government’s Support at Home program — a reform designed to simplify home care and place customer rights and protections at its heart.

Restorative care can help participants regain or maintain their independence and functional abilities after an illness, injury, or decline in health, and importantly, it aims to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being to prevent the need for higher levels of care.

The Support at Home program introduces a specialised end-of-life funding stream to increase services and support participants who have been diagnosed with 3 months or less to live and wish to remain at home.  

Care plans are a necessary and important part of receiving a Support at Home funding package.

As populations age and more older adults express a desire to remain in their own homes, the demand for home-based aged care services in Australia has continued to grow.
