Group leadership team

Each member has a specific expertise and experience relevant to the company’s activities and a commitment to both the values of the company and the highest standards of corporate governance.

Rohan Mead

Group Managing Director & CEO

Mr Mead was appointed Group Managing Director of Australian Unity Limited on 1 July 2004. As Group Managing Director, he is a member of subsidiary boards and most committees. Mr Mead is also deputy chairman of Platypus Asset Management and a director of Seres Asset Management (Hong Kong). He is chairman of the Business Council of Australia’s Healthy Australia task force and a member of its Indigenous Engagement task force. He is also a director of the Centre for Independent Studies, a director of the Business Council of Co-Operatives and Mutuals Limited (BCCM) and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Prior to joining Australian Unity, Mr Mead was employed by Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited (1996-2003) in a range of senior roles. Mr Mead has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.

Amanda Hagan 

Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare, Group Executive, Digital

Ms Hagan joined Australian Unity in May 2006. As Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare and Chief Executive Officer and director of Australian Unity Health Limited and Grand United Corporate Health Limited, she is responsible for all elements of Australian Unity’s healthcare operations and strategic development of the business.   On 31 May 2016 
Ms Hagan took on the new and additional responsibility for executing the Australian Unity Group’s digital agenda, leading the newly created Digital Transformation Centre.  She is a director of a number of Australian Unity Limited subsidiaries. Ms Hagan is also a director of the Australian Health Service Alliance (a cooperative hospital contracting company formed by 24 health insurance funds) and Members Own Health Fund. Ms Hagan has more than 20 years’ experience in senior roles consulting on strategic projects for a range of companies including AGL, American Express and Energy Australia. Before joining Australian Unity, Ms Hagan held various executive roles with Perpetual Limited.

David Bryant

Chief Executive Officer, Wealth Chief Investment Officer

Mr Bryant joined Australian Unity in 2004. He is Chief Executive Officer for Australian Unity, Wealth and Chief Investment Officer for the Australian Unity Group. He is responsible for Australian Unity’s financial services, investment and banking activities in Australia and Hong Kong. He is a board member of many of its operating entities and Investment Joint Venture subsidiaries. Prior to joining Australian Unity David was Chief Operating Officer at Perpetual Personal Financial Services, and has held senior roles in financial services, asset consulting, and banking, for both Australian and international organisations. His various roles have encompassed responsibilities for business across the Asia Pacific region. Mr Bryant is a director of the Australian Financial Services Council and co-chair of its Advice Board Committee.

Kevin McCoy

Chief Executive Officer, Independent & Assisted Living

Kevin McCoy joined Australian Unity in April 2012 and became Chief Executive Officer – Independent & Assisted Living in July 2017. His previous roles at Australian Unity included Chief Financial Officer, Group Executive - Strategic Business Development and Deputy CFO – positions that have seen him hold responsibility for the effective execution of strategic initiatives, treasury, capital management and organisation-wide performance measures. Prior to joining Australian Unity, Kevin had a successful consulting relationship with the company, having project managed the merger with Grand United in 2005, the sale of the General Insurance business in 2007 and the merger with Big Sky Credit Union in 2012. Kevin’s other major consulting clients included Westpac, where he managed the merger with St George in 2008, the IPO of BT Investment Management in 2007, the acquisition of RAMS in 2007 and the sale of the bank’s Custody business to HSBC in 2006. Kevin is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and is also an accredited project management professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute.

Mel Honig

General Counsel, Company Secretary & Chief Risk Officer

Ms Melinda Honig joined Australian Unity in February 2016, as General Counsel, Company Secretary, and Chief Risk Officer. In her role Ms Honig is responsible for managing the Group’s Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Secretariat function. She is also secretary for all Group subsidiary boards. Prior to joining Australian Unity, Ms Honig worked for GE for 15 years,  five of those years with GE Capital in the role of General Counsel, overseeing the provision of legal services to GE Capital’s commercial finance, consumer finance and insurance businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Ms Honig brings to Australian Unity her executive experience in legal, compliance and company secretary functions and has worked abroad as Counsel for GE Indonesia, in operations which included transportation, energy and GE Capital. Prior to joining GE, Ms Honig was at KPMG for 5 years and undertook her legal training in Tax at KPMG.

Karyn Munsie

Group Executive, Corporate Development

Ms Munsie joined Australian Unity in July 2017 as Group Executive Corporate Development. In her role she is responsible for leadership of the brand, communications, member relations and community engagement functions. Prior to joining Australian Unity, Ms Munsie held brand and leadership roles in a range of industries including financial services and property at companies such as Bank of Queensland, Stockland and AMP. She has also worked in the U.S. in a consulting role to establish the marketing & communications function of a Texas-based financial services company. She commenced her career as a finance journalist.

Tahir Tanveer

Group Executive, Business Technology

Mr Tanveer joined Australian Unity in July 2008 as the Head of Solutions Delivery and in October 2009, he was appointed General Manager, Business Technology before being appointed Group Executive, Business Technology in October 2010. Mr Tanveer is responsible for the management of the business technology group which deploys the company’s technology solutions and translates strategies into appropriate business outcomes. Mr Tanveer has more than 20 years’ of extensive experience in developing strategies, improving business operations and implementing technology solutions in the financial services sector. He is also a qualified project director certified by the Australian Institute of Project Management and has managed multi-million dollar projects.

Jane Petersen

Group Executive, Human Resources

Ms Betts joined Australian Unity in May 2015 as the Group Executive for Human Resources. In her role she is responsible for the leadership of all of the Australian Unity Human Resource functions. Prior to joining Australian Unity from NAB, Ms Betts was the Head of People for JB Were. Ms Betts has held HR Leadership roles for over 20 years both in Australia and New Zealand. Her experience has largely been in Financial Services and Insurance Companies including Medibank Private, Accident Compensation Corporation and AMP. In addition to leadership of HR functions Ms Betts has led a large operations function within the ANZ Banking Group. Ms Betts has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business (Human Resources).

Steve Davis

Chief Executive Officer, Personal Financial Services

Mr Davis joined Australian Unity in February 2009 as Head of Practice Development, Personal Financial Services and in August 2009 he was promoted to the role of General Manager, and again to Chief Executive Officer in August 2012. Mr Davis is responsible for the operations and growth of the Group’s Personal Financial Services business, which delivers high quality financial planning, finance broking, general insurance broking, life risk insurance services, estate planning and estate administration to clients through a network of financial advisers, accountants and finance brokers. Mr Davis has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services.
