For the second year in a row, Australian Unity has been recognised as one of the Australian Financial Review’s (AFR) Sustainability Leaders.

The 2023 AFR Sustainability Leaders list, presented in association with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), celebrates Australian companies that are making real progress in tackling sustainability challenges—and delivering business value along the way.

Chief Financial Officer and Group Executive for Finance & Strategy, Darren Mann said to be recognised as a leader in sustainability, for two consecutive years, is recognition for a lot of hard work and is further encouragement to keep tying our purpose to profit by investing in innovative new programs, products and initiatives that tackle some of our most pressing community challenges.

“As a mutual organisation originally established to fulfil societal and economic needs for members and the community—delivering positive ESG and social impact is a natural fit for describing and driving what we do and have done for over 180 years,” Mr Mann said.

“Our Community & Social Value (CSV) Framework has become a big part of our business—providing a foundation for decision making to keep us strategically aligned to our purpose of delivering real wellbeing and outcomes for our members.

“Delivering valued solutions that deliver positive impact for our communities is the ambition driving our corporate and long-term growth strategies, helping us to choose areas for investment and growth.”

Developed in consultation with Social Ventures Australia (SVA), a leading social impact consulting practice, the CSV Framework measures the societal impact and value through the entirety of Australian Unity’s health, wealth and care portfolio—with $1.63 billion in social value impact delivered in FY2022.
