Australian Unity has announced its support for the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum and has joined Reconciliation Australia’s ‘Yes’ campaign, along with more than 70 other organisations and Reconciliation Action Plan partners.

Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Rohan Mead said given our history and current operations as a large employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and as a provider of culturally tailored care to Indigenous customers through our Aboriginal Home Health business, the Group seeks to make a real and meaningful contribution to reconciliation.

“With a history dating back more than 180 years, we recognise our active contributions—through our antecedent organisations that provided constitutional drafters and undertook advocacy for the federation of the colonies—to the thinking and design of the original Australian Constitution and other key founding artefacts of our modern nation,” said Mr Mead.

“We now recognise the shortcomings of these positively intentioned, but nevertheless, discriminatory and incomplete documents, and we embrace the opportunity to reshape the form and aspirations of the foundational documents of our modern nation.”

Mr Mead said through our business activities, employees and customers, and our ongoing efforts to promote reconciliation detailed in our Reconciliation Action Plan, the Group wishes to stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to add our voice to the calls to progress a Yes vote and to realise actions from the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

“We proudly join Reconciliation Australia and many other companies and organisations in demonstrating our support for recognition and voice, which are at the heart of reconciliation,” said Mr Mead.

“At Australian Unity, we are one of any number of Australian citizens—individuals and corporations—who are responding to the gracious invitation framed by the Uluru Statement from the Heart to create a reconciled future for our nation.”
