Australian Unity’s world-class retirement community,  The Grace Albert Park Lake, has won Best Retirement Living Development at this year’s National Retirement Living Awards.

Hosted by the Property Council of Australia and sponsored by FMSA Architecture, the award recognises the best new or refurbished retirement living development with less than 50 units or dwellings.

According to Lorraine Calder, General Manager of Places, Australian Unity's signature integrated retirement village model, Better Together® (a central feature of The Grace) was key to the win and has evolved over 15 years under my leadership of our design practice at Australian Unity.

“The award is the culmination of years of hard work and determination by our teams,” Ms Calder said.

“As an architect, I have long championed the need to reinvent the built environments in which ageing is experienced, engaging purposeful use of design nuances that influence human behaviour and providing agency and amenity to older people so that they can age well.”

Beverly Smith, Executive General Manager Residential Communities, said this award is a fitting tribute and celebration of the vision and community contribution of Australian Unity as a mutual and wellbeing organization.

“For the last decade, our team had the foresight and fortitude to invest in The Grace and Better Together®, keeping customer expectations and preferences as our north star,” Ms Smith said.

“Our target market is older people who expect to have choice and control as they age—and who won’t compromise on quality.”

Ms Smith said as part of our Better Together® philosophy to provide a continuum of care to our residents, Australian Unity is creating The Alba precinct next door to The Grace. “We’re looking forward to the launch of this highly anticipated development in 2023 which will include luxury assisted living apartments, aged care suites and a stunning shared rooftop.”
