Member owned wellbeing company Australian Unity announced today the appointment of David Lumb as CEO and Group Executive of the new Specialist Care platform.

Replacing part of the previous Independent & Assisted Living platform, Specialist Care is dedicated to delivering specialist capabilities and services in tailored settings via the Group’s residential communities, dental and disability services businesses.

Mr Lumb leads the new platform following more than three years as Group Executive Customer Digital & Technology and Chief Customer Officer. Prior to Australian Unity, Mr Lumb held various senior executive customer, member and communication-related roles at Rest, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and NRMA.

Announcing his appointment, Group Managing Director Rohan Mead said Mr Lumb’s strong background in customer and member-centric design and service delivery would be key to understanding the approach required to meet the growing age-related needs of the Australian community.

“There is no greater challenge for care providers than meeting the ageing population’s increasingly complex and acute needs for quality aged care,” Mr Mead said.

“While this focus on quality is one of the main reasons people choose Australian Unity to provide care for their loved ones, we must also continue to innovate and tailor our services to meet the rise in complexity of age-related needs across parts of our community.

“While we have a strong focus on customer-centric services, it’s our people that make the difference,” Mr Lumb said. “I am excited to work with—and provide leadership to—the many dedicated and passionate employees across our residential aged care, dental and disability care services.”

Mr Lumb holds a qualifications in law, economics and management, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The launch of the new Specialist Care platform and Mr Lumb’s appointment follows Kevin McCoy’s resignation as CEO and Group Executive of Independent & Assisted Living.

As part of other changes across the Group, a new Group Technology enabling function has been established (to be led by Group Executive Technology—Mark Gay) while the product and service design, marketing and business-specific technology functions will move from the Customer, Digital & Technology function into the revenue platforms.
