Member owned wellbeing company Australian Unity has announced the appointment of Mark Gay as the new Group Executive Technology.

Mr Gay will join Australian Unity in the new financial year from QBE Australia Pacific where he is the current Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Mr Gay has over 25 years of experience driving digital change and transformation across various sectors—including CIO, Chief Digital Officer and Chief Technology Officer positions at companies such as BetEasy, ME Bank and GE Capital. He was recognised as the 2016 Australian CIO of the year, the 2017 Australian Financial Services CIO of the year and as one of Australia’s outstanding 50 LGBTI leaders in 2018.

The establishment of the new Group Technology function follows several organisational changes across the Group—including the realignment of product and service design, marketing and business-specific technology activities from the previous Customer, Digital & Technology function into the revenue platforms.

Group Managing Director Rohan Mead said Mr Gay’s exceptional experience and leadership will play a major role in the growth and transformation of the Group’s technology functions.

“Improving and advancing Australian Unity’s digital technologies has the potential to increase our productivity, growth and engagement with our members and customers—but with these new technologies comes risk,” Mr Mead said.

“The appointment of Mr Gay provides Australian Unity the skill and expertise to advance and build our digital technologies while also helping us ensure that we address potential cybersecurity threats.”

Mr Gay said about his appointment, “I’m thoroughly looking forward to working at Australian Unity, with its long history delivering health, wealth and care products and services to support the Australian community.”

Mr Gay holds a Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
