FAQs

What staff members are eligible?

The OVC discount is available to casual, part-time, permanent, or contingent worker Australian Unity employees.

If I’m an existing OVHC customer, can I still get the staff discount?

Yes. You can get the discount on your existing OVHC policy. The discount will be effective once it has been applied to your policy but it cannot be backdated.

Can I join online and get the staff discount?

No. The OVC staff discount is only available through the Australian Unity contact centre. Call 03 8601 1410 to get a quote today.

Can my family and friends also get the 12% discount?

If you're a permanent or casual Australian Unity Group employee, your family and friends can get a 12% discount on overseas visitors health cover and a 9% discount on extras cover ³.

Are the health insurance benefits for employees also available for overseas vistors cover?

We offer a 12% discount on hospital cover; however, additional acquisition offers such as 6 weeks free or the $1,000 staff subsidy are not applicable to Overseas Visitors Hospital Health Insurance.

Terms & Conditions

Employee discount includes all other retail discounts and is available when paying by direct debit or payroll. The discount is not available through brokers or comparators. The discount is available to permanent and casual employees of the Australian Unity Group.

Employees employed by Australian Unity Home Care Services Pty Ltd are not eligible to receive the Premium Relief Subsidy towards Australian Unity health insurance. Only available while the employee remains employed with Australian Unity. You need to take out and retain an eligible hospital and extras cover and pay through payroll deduction to be eligible for the subsidy. Ask our consultants about the relevant products.

Family and friends discount only applies to corporate products and overseas visitors cover and is only available when paying by direct debit. The discount is not available through brokers or comparators. This discount is not to be used in conjunction with any other offers or discounts except a valid weeks free promotional offer or the Refer a Friend promotional offer subject to relevant T&Cs. Eligible family includes all immediate and extended family members of currently employed Australian Unity employees, and those of their partner (this includes de facto partners). Only available to new members on new memberships who have not previously held Australian Unity health insurance within 90 days of joining.

Wellplan Rewards is free to private health insurance customers after completing 30 days of membership.

Terms & Conditions: Get 6 (six) weeks free when you join via Australian Unity partnerships on hospital and extras cover (6 October – 12 December 2025)

This offer only applies to Australian Unity staff who:

between 6 October - 12 December 2025 (inclusive) – purchase Australian Unity corporate hospital and extras cover at the same time or retail hospital and extras cover at the same time (i.e. either a combined product or a hospital product and an extras product) where the policies purchased have a commencement date between 6 October – 12 December 2025; and
are new members on new memberships who have not previously held Australian Unity health insurance within 90 days of joining

After complying with paragraph 1 above, and subject to paragraph 4 below, the policy holder may receive 6 (six) weeks free on their eligible cover. Limit of one 6 weeks free offer per membership.
This promotion is not available:

through aggregators or comparators;
to members who take out hospital only cover, extras only cover or Overseas Visitors Cover;
to dependants who come off their parent’s policy and take out hospital & extras cover or a combination cover within 90 days. However, they may be eligible for a separate offer if they join within 30 days, refer to the details here

The 6 weeks free will be applied to the membership after the policy holder has their eligible cover for a minimum period of 60 continuous days and the policy is paid up to date:

The 6 weeks free will not be applied on any policies that at any time during the first 60 days of membership have been or are:

in arrears; or
suspended

The 6 weeks free offer is applied to your policy by advancing the date you are paid up to, i.e. moving it forward 6 weeks.

The 6 weeks free will be applied to policies within 30 days after completing 60 continuous days of paid membership. The 6 weeks free may be applied sooner for Australian Unity staff who pay by group payment.
This offer is not available in conjunction with any other offer or promotion, except where those offers or promotions are clearly expressed or communicated by Australian Unity to constitute or form part of a single offer.
AU staff are eligible for the AU staff discount and the weeks free offer.
This offer can be withdrawn at any time by Australian Unity. Australian Unity reserves the right to change these offer conditions at any time by publishing updated terms and conditions on its website australianunity.com.au/health-insurance/affiliate/tcs and to apply the updated offer conditions to any policies purchased after the time when the conditions were updated.
Australian Unity may request further information from any purchaser at its discretion, acting reasonably, in order to determine whether the purchaser is eligible for this promotion.

^ Terms & Conditions: Overseas Visitors Cover

Employee discount is available to permanent and casual employees of the Australian Unity Group.
The discount applies to both Workers and Non-Workers products and is only available when paying by direct debit for policies purchased via the Australian Unity contact centre. Discount is not available via partnerships, aggregators, or online.
The discount can be applied to an existing staff policy but it cannot be backdated.
- All waiting periods still apply. Worker’s cover products will have continuity; Non-Workers cover will not have continuity.
