What to expect when applying

Learning about each other

As part of the recruitment process, we’ll ask you a bunch of questions and we encourage you to ask us questions too. This will help us in determining if this is the right role for you.

Offer of employment

If you’re successful, we’ll send your offer of employment by email and you will be required to complete some of our on-boarding tasks.

Friendly support before you start

We have a dedicated candidate care team who will welcome you to Home Health. They’re there to answer any questions during the process, before you start and introduce you to your local team.

Background checks and qualifications

Background checks and other documentation appropriate to the role will be required, however you don’t need to have completed these checks before applying as we’ll order these at the time of offer.

Health & safety requirements

The health and wellbeing of our employees and clients is our top priority. Care workers, nurses, allied health professionals and others in customer facing roles are required to show their proof of immunisation.

On the job support

As part of the Home Health orientation process, all new employees will complete our induction course online. Depending on your experience, we also offer several suitable programs to support your career development, from-1:1 coaching, ‘ride-alongs’ with experienced Care Workers through to industry recognised qualifications and traineeships.

What is a home care worker? What would my day look like?

A home care worker at Australian Unity supports our ageing customers with everyday life activities in their home to help maintain their independence and wellbeing.

Your day will be varied depending on the needs of our customers. Some tasks may include supporting our customers with:

Daily tasks such as preparing meals, laundry, basic cleaning and personal care
Accessing and participating in hobbies, sports, art and community groups
Transport to and from activities, appointments, shopping and leisure outings
Building and maintaining meaningful relationships with our customers and their families

What are the career pathways in care work?

We provide genuine career pathways for our home care workers. If you have no experience, you can join us as a Domestic Care Attendant, gain industry experience and potentially progress into experienced positions such as Home Care Support Worker. Our team members have access to our learning and development opportunities including an all paid for traineeship to complete Cert III in Individual Support.

What qualifications do I need to work as a home care worker?

As a home care worker, a Certificate 3 or 4 in aged care or individual support is highly regarded. Previous experience within aged care or community services is important as well. If you are unsure whether you have the right experience, contact us at careers@australianunity.com.au and a team member from our talent acquisition team will be in touch with you.

Will I be required to complete background checks if successful for a role?

As part of the selection process for all roles, we complete the following background checks: national police check, international police check (if relevant), work entitlements check and reference checks.
