How is the cost of a Couples’ policy calculated?

Couples’ policies are generally priced at twice the premium of a Singles policy, as they provide cover for two adults. The exact amount may vary depending on the level of cover and other policy features.

How is LHC loading calculated for Couples’ policies?

If you and your partner have been without cover for different lengths of time, your Lifetime Health Cover loading will be calculated by averaging out the two. For example, if you’re paying a 4% loading, and your partner has a 10% loading, that will be averaged out to 7% on a couple or family policy. For more information visit here.

What’s the Australian Government Rebate for couples?

To be able to claim the Government Rebate, both adults on the policy must be eligible for Medicare benefits. For Couples / Families policies we will apply the rebate percentage based on the oldest person on the membership.

Can dependents be added to a Couples’ policy?

Adding dependents will require changing your policy to a Family (including Single Parent Family) policy. This change will result in a higher premium, as the cover is expanded to include more people. In some cases, you may also need to switch to a different product, as some policies are not designed to cover more than two adults. Can my partner be added to my existing policy?

Is it possible to share health insurance after divorce?

It’s possible to remain on the same membership following a separation or divorce. Please keep in mind that any claim payments will be paid into the account listed under the membership, regardless of who paid for the treatment. If any disputes arise we will keep the agreement with the person who holds authority over the membership. Unless advised otherwise, the spouse named on the membership will have automatic delegated authority.

Do I have to be married to get couples health cover policy?

You can add your partner regardless of your marital status. Policy Holder’s Partner means a legally married spouse of, or a person in a De Facto Relationship with, the Policy Holder;
