Chris experienced a sudden life-changing event when he was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation syndrome (AVM), which caused him to lose all function in his arms and legs. This diagnosis came during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a lengthy hospital stay in Manila. After nearly two years, he returned to Australia and began his rehabilitation journey.
Facing challenges in finding suitable housing that met his new care needs, Chris was thrilled to discover an apartment that provided the accessibility and support he required.
In July 2023, Chris moved into the Australian Unity Specialist Disability Accommodation in Chermside, QLD. He found this new home to be a perfect fit, providing the accessibility and support he needed to regain his independence and enjoy life more fully. Australian Unity partner with accredited SDA Providers who work with Participants to appoint preferred Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers. Chris has expressed gratitude for the features of his new home, which allowed him to regain independence and enjoy life more fully.
