There may come a time when things that once felt simple, like showering, getting dressed or moving around the house, start to take a little more effort. That doesn't mean giving up your independence. In fact, the right support can help you maintain it.

Personal care services are designed to help you continue living safely and comfortably at home, while staying in control of your daily routine.

Could personal care help you?

You might benefit from extra support if:
  • You're finding it harder to shower safely on your own
  • Getting dressed takes more time or effort than it used to
  • You're feeling less steady on your feet
  • You're recovering from an illness, injury or hospital stay
  • You'd like extra support to start your day with confidence
Whether you need occasional assistance or more regular support, personal care can be tailored to suit your needs and preferences.

What support is available?

Personal care may include help with:
  • Showering and personal hygiene
  • Dressing and grooming
  • Hair care and shaving
  • Toileting and continence support
  • Getting in and out of bed
  • Moving safely around your home
  • Medication assistance
Your support worker works alongside you, helping where needed while encouraging you to remain as independent as possible.

How can personal care make a difference?

  • Feel more confident
Having support with daily activities can help you feel more comfortable and confident at home.
  • Stay safe
Assistance with mobility and personal care tasks can help reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls.
  • Maintain your independence
A helping hand with challenging tasks can make it easier to continue living in your own home and doing the things you enjoy.
  • Focus on what matters most
When everyday tasks become easier to manage, you can spend more time with family and friends, enjoy your hobbies, and stay connected to the things that matter to you.

Good news for Support at Home participants

Under new changes from 1 October 2026, approved personal care services will not require a customer co-contribution under Support at Home. This means eligible participants can access personal care support without out-of-pocket costs for these services.
