Australian Unity has lodged a Development Application with Economic Development Queensland for the construction of a nine-storey car park on Research Road at Herston.
The Development Application details plans for the 1164 space car park and includes information on traffic management, proposed road upgrades and landscaping.
The public notification period is open from 03 September to 16 October 2020.

Please be advised that a large 50 tonne excavator will be removed from the Herston Quarter site via Butterfield Street and Service Road on Tuesday 28th April between 5:00am and 6:00am. Please follow the direction of traffic control operators during this time.

Access to Central Drive from Back Road will not be possible during these works and anyone parking at Bramston Terrace car park is encouraged to walk to work along Bramston Terrace and Herston Road. Please follow the direction of traffic controllers and signage in place.
As part of the enabling works in the Herston Quarter Heritage Precinct, decontamination of several buildings on the site will commence from 17 March.
This work will be carried out by specialist contractors under strict management plans. There is no requirement for members of the community to act, and all works areas will be carried out in restricted areas.

A number of large trees and vegetation on Back Road and Research Road will be removed or trimmed as part of the works to divert services from the Herston Quarter
Most of the vegetation on the northern side of Back Road between Lady Ramsay Child Care and Hospital Alcohol and Drug Service (HADS) will be removed.
This work is to allow for the safe diversion of existing site services, and to accommodate future redevelopment on the site.
Tree removal works will be supervised by a professional arborist and a qualified wildlife expert will be in attendance to inspect trees for wildlife prior to and during removal.
All tree removal will be in accordance with relevant approvals and plans. These works will take several weeks to complete.
From Monday 13 January 2020, the entry and exit point via Research Road to the staff car park adjacent to Ronald McDonald House will be closed and vehicles will be required to enter and exit from Garrick Terrace.
The car park modification is required to allow for the diversion of services, prior to the development of a new 1150 space car park as part of the redevelopment of Herston Quarter. These changes will remain in place until completion of the new multi-storey car park in early 2022.
During this time, there will be changed traffic conditions:
The car park will still be operational during this time and there will be no changes to pedestrian access.
These works are anticipated to take three to four weeks to complete and may generate some noise and require temporary changes to traffic. Please follow the direction of signage and traffic controllers.

There will be temporary interruptions and changes to vehicle and pedestrian access at the Herston Road delivery dock from Wednesday 9 October to Friday 18 October 2019, weather permitting. Intermittent interruptions and changes to access will continue until the end of November 2019.
Works are required to install a new water connection and excavation will be carried out during night works between 7.00pm and 5.00am. A vehicle detour will be in place for deliveries and pedestrian access will be maintained under traffic control. We are pleased to announce that Australian Unity’s development application for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the heritage buildings at Herston Quarter has been approved by Economic Development Queensland.
This is an important milestone for the $1.1 billion redevelopment of Herston Quarter and will see some of Brisbane’s most iconic heritage health buildings preserved and reused for generations to come.
Vibration testing is scheduled to occur nearby the Northern Car Park site on Research Road from 8am, Saturday 4 May 2019. We wish to advise that if this scheduled testing is affected by heavy rainfall, these works may be completed on Sunday 5 May 2019.
This work involves short, intermittent noise from an excavator with a rock hammer in prescribed areas and monitoring the vibration impacts to neighbouring buildings.
There will also be temporary interruption to 15 car parks the B52B car park to allow for these works. These car parks will be reserved from midday Thursday 2 May 2019 through to Sunday 5 May 2019. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
We are pleased to announce that Australian Unity has recently submitted a Development Application for the Heritage precinct and public realm for consideration to Economic Development Queensland. The Development Application outlines plans to restore and reuse State listed Lady Lamington, Edith Cavell and Lady Norman buildings and proposed land uses.
Survey works are scheduled to be conducted nearby the Butterfield Street roundabout on Thursday 17 January 2019 between 9am and 4pm.
These works will involve surveying manholes located on Butterfield Street, Garrick Terrace, Research Road and Service Road and may result in some short, temporary road closures and minor delays.
Since construction commencement in May this year, we have progressed to level 6 of the building, while finalising retention works of the northern wall behind the building. With excavation now complete, works on the rear of the building have now progressed.
We wish to advise that works on site will cease on Friday 21st December 2018 and resume on Monday 7th January 2019.

The history and heritage of the suburb of Herston inspired the development of the new Herston Quarter brand. From the shapes of the windows to the colouring of the roof tiles on the Lady Lamington Towers, every element of the new brand has been considered and thought through to ensure it reflects the rich history of the area and the future of the Herston Quarter site.
The new $340 million specialist health facility at Herston Quarter will be named the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service.
The state-of-the-art facility is the first building that will be completed as part of the $1.1 billion redevelopment of Herston Quarter which is being delivered by Australian Unity in partnership with Metro North Hospital and Health Service.
Expected to open in 2021, STARS will be operated by Metro North Hospital and Health Service and comprise of 184 in-patient beds, seven operating theatres, three endoscopy procedure rooms and consultation spaces.

Following significant community and expert feedback, considerable changes have been incorporated into the car park design.
The design now achieves natural ventilation, delivering a better environmental outcome. Changes to the façade design ensure that concerns around noise, light spill and air quality are addressed and the landscape plan now allows for more landscaped planting along Back Road and deep tree planting along Research Road.
As the design for the Northern Car Park continues to be refined, we are preparing to relocate existing services for the surrounding health precinct from the car park site. These service relocation works are expected to commence early October and take approximately nine months.

From Tuesday 10 July, Bramston Terrace is scheduled to be partially closed between 7pm and 5am to allow for the installation of communications infrastructure. These works are weather permitting.
Vehicles travelling in a southerly direction will be diverted at the roundabout via clearly marked detours. Pedestrians will also be diverted whilst these works are underway. Please see the attached map.
Please note these works will also restrict access to the staff and permit holders entrance and exit of Bramston Terrace Car Park. Please use the lower entry and exit points to the car park during these night works.

Overnight closure of the Herston Road footpath is scheduled to commence this week to allow for the installation of communications infrastructure.
The temporary closure will be in place for up to two weeks and pedestrians will be required to cross to the southern side of the road between 7pm and 5am weeknights.
There will be intermittent disruption to pedestrian access on Herston Road as works continue on the site. Please follow the direction of signage and traffic control operators at all times.

Herston Road will be closed in both directions from Bramston Terrace to the Gilchrist Avenue roundabout on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May from 6am - 6pm. This closure is to allow for the installation of a second tower crane on the specialist public health facility site. Detours will be in place and clearly sign posted. Please see the map here.
The bus stop on Herston Road out the front of the construction site will be relocated this week. The bus stop has been temporarily relocated to Bramston Terrace about 95 metres away. The temporary bus stop will be in place for 12 months.
Changes to pedestrian access along Herston Road are now in place. These temporary changes are to allow for high voltage works to take place along the edge of the site. Pedestrian access is maintained along Herston Road.

The planned overnight closure of the Herston Road footpath has been temporarily delayed. A further update will provided closer to the rescheduled dates.

Australian Unity, in consultation with Metro North Hospital and Health Service, is finalising its masterplan for the redevelopment of Herston Quarter and would like to invite the community, staff, students and visitors to provide input into the ongoing masterplan design.
Your opinions will give us valuable insight into creating a master plan that reflects your needs, particularly about future services, public space and amenity.
This survey has 24 questions and should take approximately ten minutes to complete. You will also have the opportunity to register your interest to participate in a focus group.
The survey will be available from 19th February – 10th March 2018. All individual survey data collected is anonymous and will be treated confidentially.

Economic Development Queensland has approved Australian Unity's Development Application for a specialist public health facility to be built on Herston Road, Brisbane.
The specialist public health facility is the first health building to be completed as part of the $1.1 billion redevelopment of Herston Quarter.
The facility will provide specialist rehabilitation, elective surgery and outpatient services and is being developed to offer world-class patient-focused care much needed in Queensland.
It is expected that construction will begin in March 2018 and completed in late 2020.

Australian Unity’s Herston Quarter Redevelopment, in partnership with Metro North Hospital and Health Service, was formally recognised at last night’s Public Private Partnership awards in Sydney for ‘Best Social Infrastructure Project’ and ‘Best Financial Structure’.
The Herston Quarter Redevelopment a world class health, aged care, medical and research precinct in Brisbane includes the first public health facility in Australia to be built in a real estate investment trust structure using private capital from investors.

Bulk earthworks for the Specialist Public Health Facility footprint will commence this week on the former Children’s Hospital at the Herston Quarter site. This work is in preparation for the construction of the new facility in the New Year.
For this stage of works, truck movements will be restricted to Herston Road and will be managed by traffic control operators as required.

Truck movements and construction activity will increase on the Herston Quarter site from now as the internal strip out of the former Children’s Hospital commences. This work is in preparation for the demolition of the former Children's Hospital in coming weeks.
For this stage of works, truck movements will be limited to Herston Road and will be managed by traffic control operators as required.

Exploratory works have started around the former Children’s Hospital this week. This work includes some jack hammering and digging to determine the type of rock and foundations on the site and isolate some underground cabling.
This work will generate some noise on site for the next three weeks.
These works are critical to isolate some services prior to demolition works and determine the machinery and approach required for excavation of the site later this year.

The disconnection of services in the old Children’s Hospital on the Herston Quarter site is now underway as part of the first stage of the Herston Quarter redevelopment.
These works will take place over the coming months and will allow for the diversion of important cabling and future demolition of the building.
Every effort is being made to ensure minimal disruption to services on the site and staff will be made aware of when short term outages to data or telephones are anticipated.
