The selection process considered how the site could most effectively be used to achieve the government’s vision for a health-focused precinct within its requirement that it be delivered at no net cost to the State.
In August 2016 the Queensland Government announced that Australian Unity had been selected as the preferred tenderer for the development. The assessment focused on the developer’s vision for the Herston Quarter and the extent to which aligned with the government’s vision for the site, and the proponent’s credentials, capability and experience in delivering high quality health and community precincts. This process identified Australian Unity’s Proposal as best meeting the State’s requirements for the development.
In February 2017, Queensland Treasury and Australian Unity finalised the contract for the Herston Quarter development.
Works are expected to start in MONTH 2017 and the development will occur in stages over the next 10 years. The completion of the new public health facility, the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS), is a priority.
