Development Overview

Location

Located two kilometres from Brisbane’s central business district and forming part of the already established and world-class Herston Health Precinct, the Herston Quarter offers many strategic advantages.

Site plan

Over the next 10 years, the planned $1.1 billion project will build or develop multiple integrated buildings across the Herston Quarter to create a vibrant, wellbeing community where Queenslanders can thrive.

Land use plan

In line with the priorities of the Queensland Government, the Herston Quarter will primarily focus on delivering quality health education and biomedical facilities across 50% of the new Quarter. Complementing this is a range of uses across aging, residential, commercial, child care, retail and food and beverage services that support the Quarter and the balance of the Herston Health Precinct.

The overall land use will also be balanced in nature, embrace the site’s existing heritage value and create a vibrant, wellbeing community where Queenslanders and all those who visit the Herston Health Precinct can thrive.

Development plan

The masterplan for the Herston Quarter development includes:

  • the 184 in-patient bed public health facility, providing specialist care for rehabilitation, elective surgery, endoscopy and outpatient services to help meet the demands in Queensland
  • new private hospital incorporating medical suites, commercial space and potential for biomedical space
  • multi-million dollar investment in the adaptive re-use of the Herston Quarter's heritage buildings, including returning the historic Lady Lamington buildings to student accommodation, consistent with their original use
  • aged care and retirement living and an active seniors' and wellbeing precinct providing community services and facilities
  • residential accommodation
  • potential for further research and commercial space
  • childcare facilities
  • retail and restaurant facilities to support the new mixed-use community
  • triple the number of carparks currently available on the site
  • a multi-million dollar investment in the public realm to create a variety of attractive, accessible and comfortable new public spaces for visitors and residents to enjoy, and to improve the connectivity of the Herston Quarter with the Herston Health Precinct and surrounds.
