Australian Unity mental health submission

Australian Unity agrees with the guiding principle behind the Victorian government’s vision for future mental health policy, that “all Victorians have the opportunity and right to experience their best mental health”.

Australian Unity believes prevention is just as important as treatment in mental health, and that resources are best directed at targeted preventative measures at the primary care stage.

Remedy Healthcare, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Australian Unity, has a new mental health program for those currently being hospitalised regularly with anxiety and depression. It uses cognitive behavioural therapy delivered via the telephone, and complements the care available from GPs, psychologists and psychiatrists.

Australian Unity believes this model of care is suitable for use in the public sector, freeing up hospital resources for other purposes.
