Australian Unity is about to celebrate its 175th year. We date our history back to 1840, when a group of men from varied walks of life established a colonial chapter of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows in Melbourne. Our founders included a chief constable, three builders, a farrier, a brewer and a newspaper proprietor.
There are perhaps a handful of Australian companies who can trace their roots back this far, and we are proud to be one of them.
We are especially proud that some of the core establishing principles of the new organisation are still a strong part of our identity today. One example is that it would be an organisation run by and for members.
