Australian Unity is one of Australia’s largest providers
of Home & Disability Services. Here are just some of the
clients we are supporting through the transition to the
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Dean has cerebral palsy. He recently scored one of the highest marks in New South Wales for Year 12 English, gaining him entry into computer science at Western Sydney University.
“At first, I was a bit nervous. I really didn’t know how things worked. I was happy once I understood the NDIS and I like the way it is structured because it suits my mindset of breaking my goals down into small steps."
Australian Unity is working with Dean as he transitions to the NDIS, providing support around the home and transport to and from university.
With four national swimming records in her class, Cassandra has already achieved a great deal of success. Now she’s turning her hand to Boccia, with the goal of representing Australia in the 2020 Paralympics.
Cassandra's father, Peter, said that before NDIS, Cassandra’s life was based around going to programs. “Now Cassandra has input and control and can plan around her interest in sport. It’s also changed the dynamic for our entire family as we’re not so completely focused on supporting Cassie.”
With funding from the NDIS, Australian Unity is providing Cassandra and her family with the support they need to enable her to pursue her dreams.
Holly has muscular dystrophy. Driven by a desire to help others, she’s set her sights on becoming a professional counsellor.
As Holly dreams of a future of giving back and seeing the world, her mother Laura can see a future in which her daughter is able to “live independently as an adult and get all of the helps she needs, when she needs it”.
With funding from the NDIS Australian Unity is supporting Holly to work towards her goal and provide her with the supports she needs in a busy family with three siblings.
After putting her hand up for advice about moving to the NDIS, Alisa, who has spina bifida, is realising her goal of living independently.
“I explained the services I had and what I wanted to Kim and Dana from Australian Unity who helped me with preparation for the NDIS interview. We went through the payment plan and how the services would be offered.”
That’s when the world of choice under the NDIS dawned on Alisa. “We worked on the services I wanted, at the times I needed them. Before NDIS, I had to take what was offered, when it was made available.”
Ways we can support your transition to NDIS
The NDIS is a big change. You’re sure to have questions about it so we offer you free advice at any time. We also provide you with your own personal support coordinator to keep you informed and help you make the best decisions for your care. Here are a few ways we can partner with you.
The NDIS is here. That means more control in your life, more freedom to decide on the services and support you would like and more flexibility to set your own plan, with no-one telling you what you can and can’t do.
If you’d like a little support to understand what the NDIS can do for you, our friendly team is available to discuss your needs 24/7. As one of Australia’s most experienced disability service providers we’re ready to support you on your terms.
