The COACH Program®

COACH

COACH Program®, coaching your heart back to good health

COACH stands for 'Coaching Patients On Achieving Cardiovascular Health' and involves individual telephone coaching to eligible Australian Unity members who have suffered heart problems.

When a participant leaves hospital they are teamed with a personal 'coach' who works with them for the next six months to understand the information their doctor has given them. The coach will also help work out a suitable diet and exercise plan.

The goal of the COACH Program® is to help patients to achieve the target levels for their coronary risk factors as recommended by the National Heart Foundation of Australia, and help them stick to their medication program.

World's first is a success story

The Coach Program® is the world's first evidence-based program using coaching to help prevent the progression of coronary heart disease. It is the result of 12 years of research into how to best assist people to minimise their coronary risk factors.

It has also undergone two randomised controlled trials published in international medical journals. Victorian Department of Human Services monitoring over four years found that people who participated in the COACH Program® spent a total of 20 percent less time in hospital compared to those who hadn't taken part in the program.
