Preparing for parenthood is unlike anything you’ve ever done before.
As you await the arrival of your baby, you’ll experience many emotions. Elation, joy, anticipation – not to mention stress, anxiety and fear – are all par for the course when it comes to this momentous event: a transition that will change your life forever.
Along with all the excitement of impending parenthood come the inevitable questions: ‘Am I ready to become a parent? Is what I’m experiencing normal? What if I do something wrong?’
While family and friends may be on hand to offer advice and insights during this time, their support is not the same as that of an experienced professional.
It’s for this reason that Australian Unity offers you baby+me®, an innovative program designed exclusively for our members. As an eligible member, baby+me® gives you regular access to a qualified midwife, via telephone and email, throughout your pregnancy and right up until your baby’s first birthday, at no extra cost. Simple.
If you have any questions or concerns, whether about how to prepare for the birth or how to care best for yourself and your infant, an expert will be there to offer practical assistance and support. Useful.
Australian Unity wants to make this emotional time as easy as possible for you – which is why we offer baby+me®, the only program of its kind available to private healthcare members in Australia.
Help is at hand
While you can email or call your individually assigned midwife as often as you like for the duration of the program, he or she will also check in with you at particular stages of your pregnancy and throughout the first 12 months of your baby’s life.
Early on in your pregnancy, your assigned midwife will be on hand to discuss – among other things – the physical and emotional changes you’re experiencing, and to offer expert tips for staying healthy.
At your 36-week milestone, he or she will help you prepare for the birth of your baby and answer any questions you may have about bringing your newborn home.
After the birth, your midwife will stay in touch to see how you’re adjusting to parenthood – particularly during those exciting first few weeks. And throughout your baby’s first year, they’ll be just a phone call or email away, equipped with up-to-date information to help you track your infant’s development, feeding and sleeping patterns – as well as your own post-pregnancy health.
Marking the occasion
In addition to the invaluable assistance your midwife will provide, you’ll also receive a welcome pack shortly after you enrol filled with information to help you through your pregnancy. And a congratulatory gift pack will accompany the arrival of your baby.
Additional support for high-risk pregnancy
If you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes during your pregnancy, we will provide you with the extra support, education and guidance of a diabetes nurse educator to help manage your condition. This support will be provided alongside the help you’ll receive from your baby+me® midwife.
