Health Cover Update - 2016

We understand that no one likes a price rise at any time of year. Every year health funds across Australia review their covers and adjust their prices. The cost of healthcare in Australia continues to rise and last year we paid back $686 million in claims to our members.

The annual review considers the rising cost of healthcare as Australians continue to receive the benefits of advanced medical equipment and treatment. We are committed to providing you with the best value cover possible, so it's important that our pricing reflects this ongoing investment to benefit our members.

About the price change

Have the new rates been approved?

The Australian Government approved the increase of health cover prices on 2 March 2016. In mid-March, our members will receive a letter outlining the change to their price.

When will the new price take effect?

New prices will apply to your health cover on and from 1 April 2016. Until that time, you can pay for your health cover at the current rate.

You’ve also got the choice of locking in your current price for up 12 months until Tuesday 31 March 2016. You can also choose to lock in for 3, 6, 9, 12 months or anywhere in between. The choice is yours. (Conditions and exclusions apply.)

How much of this increase will profit shareholders?

What payment options are available to me?

We offer a range of flexible payment options to suit your needs including:

Direct Debit — set and forget payments from either your bank account or even a credit card and you’ll receive a 4% discount on your health cover.

Account notice — if you prefer to receive a paper bill from us. You can choose to receive your account either quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. You’ll enjoy a 2% discount when you pay by account notice half yearly and 4% when you pay yearly.

How can I save on my health cover?

Hurry! Freeze the increase on your cover and lock in your 2015 price.

Start saving and lock in your rate before Tuesday 31 March 2016 to guarantee you receive 2015 prices.   • You can enjoy a 4% discount on your health cover when you pay by direct debit.
  • Apply for the Australian Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance.
    If you earn $140,000 or less as a single or $280,000 or less as a couple or family, you're entitled to a rebate that reduces the price of your health cover.
  • Reduce the price you pay on your cover by changing your excess. You may have the option of reducing the price you pay if you increase the excess on your hospital cover. To find out more, call one of our team members.
  • Make sure you're not paying for services that you may not need. If you have finished growing your family, you could consider dropping cover for pregnancy and related services. Or if you don't think you'll need hip and knee replacements any time soon, then you could keep your costs down by choosing a cover that excludes these types of services.
