Victoria Grange Aged Care Grand Opening
On Monday 8th September 2008 Australian Unity welcomed the Hon. Justine Elliot, Minister for Ageing to officially open its newest aged care facility, Victoria Grange Aged Care.
Well over 100 guests attended the opening including health professionals, local media, Australian Unity staff, the Australian Unity board, Victoria Grange Aged Care residents and local Vermont South residents.
The Minister, Australian Unity Chairman Alan Castleman and Group Executive Retirement Living Derek McMillan all spoke as part of the official proceedings, with tours of the facility conducted for all guests later in the afternoon.
Derek McMillan, Australian Unity’s Group Executive Retirement Living, said that Victoria Grange Aged Care is a great example of the future of retirement and aged care in Australia.
"Through co-locating a range of retirement living and aged care options within a well established residential area, we’re providing the infrastructure and services for people to age in their local communities,” Mr McMillan said. “At Victoria Grange residents can choose the levels of care and services they need without having to face a major move later in life."
Victoria Grange Aged Care is a purpose designed and built residential aged care facility with over 100 rooms. The first resident moved in on 15th July 2008 and the facility is now close to 50% capacity. High care, low care, transitional beds and secure dementia facilities are all offered in this luxurious Victorian style building.
"We take our commitment to residents’ wellbeing very seriously. In addition to first class care, residents are able to enjoy a variety of initiatives ranging from pastoral services through to our make a wish program. Australian Unity is dedicated to the ongoing support of older Australians," Mr McMillan said.
Australian Unity Retirement Living now has four aged care facilities with further plans to expand the portfolio.
